In Southeast Idaho, after harvest, sugar beets undergo a refinement process transforming them into sugar. They are first washed and sliced, then soaked in hot water to extract the sugar. The resulting raw juice is purified and crystallized to produce granulated sugar, which is then distributed for use in various products, from cereals to sports drinks. Additionally, all by-products like beet pulp are repurposed as animal feed, and molasses is used in alcohol production.
